I was born a slimy, green, male, alien lizard and morphed into a female human much to my mothers disgust. (She had chosen boy names.) Oh schucks! I forgot, this is the human version....I was born in Huntington, Long Island, NY and raised in South Africa by my mom, Val, and step dad, Ron. I was a very difficult, moody child and it must have been hell for them. We always had many animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, the occasional reptile, and horses. I love my riding and did a lot of showjumping and eventing. I started helping a racehorse trainer and eventually became one. After losing a couple of friends to violence I decided it was time to leave South Africa and came to live in the US. Since coming to the US I completed a degree in Chemistry (Summa Cum Laude) and then went back to race horses so that I could be a stay at home Mom. Exercising racehorses allowed me to be home by 9am.
Byron was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and was about 18 months old when we came to the US. He started walking at 8 months and although he said the occasional words from about 6 months, he did not start talking until he was 3 and has not stopped since. He started playing on the computer before he was a year old and then did most of his school work on the computer. He used to play the online interactive game, Everquest, (and then World of Warcraft) for hours every day. I did try sending him to school but the age appropriate grade policy is crazy and I refused to have him in 1st grade just because of his age, so I home schooled him until the end of 10th grade. He joined the Navy the day after his 17th birthday. He was a Petty Officer 2nd Class by the time he was done and went to college. He did an undergrad degree in Biochemistry with a focus in industrial fermentation and a graduate degree in analytical/computational chemistry.
He was an extremely difficult child.Didn't speak until he was three, threw tantrums for no reason imaginable, was fascinated with tape and if he got his hands on any, used it all taping things together. He was hyperactive, insolent, and defiant, so his teachers couldn't get him to behave, or do any work, the first few times we tried regular schools. He spent most of his days in suspension hall. At least at home he was not influenced by his peers and was better behaved so he learned something, as opposed to the NOTHING at public school. Once he really got into sports and weight training, his behavior improved no end. Byron is very bright, loving, and has a great sense of humor. Byron also likes motorbikes, gaming, poker (aaahhhhh????) and is an excellent skier. He is also a good swimmer and has his scuba certification. He enjoys football (Titans are his team), basketball, weight training, soccer, wrestling, cards, puzzles, and chess. (Now he is into his enduro bike, Alpine skiing, and paragliding) We both love amusement parks, especially the scary rides.
I grew up with my younger brother Jason and I also have a sister Tammy and two brothers Mark and Jeffrey who grew up in the US. To round off my family I have a mom, Val (deceased November 2021), a step sister Kay, nephews Ryan, Patrick, Damian, and Dean, and nieces, Luna and Jade and now great niece Sophia, and great nephew Henry, nephew Dean's kids.
