Dec. 25: Back in Hot Springs for the winter. Happy Holidays to all. We have 27 horses here. Soon all of this will be moved to the 2005 news page and I'll be starting 2006. I just finished writing chapter 4 of my novel. Sorry the news isn't more exciting. See you in the New Year. Nov. 17: Today is a very sad day, I just saw the most horrendous video about how animals are skinned ALIVE for fur in China. This fur lands up on all sorts of clothing, shoes and knick-nacks found in stores across the US. Even the cute little cat and dog figurines found in dollar stores are covered in REAL cat and dog fur. I have seen how horses are farmed for their urine - not too pleasant for the horse, bears are farmed for their gall - painful and eventually fatal, but this out strips them by miles and miles. I have never seen such horrendous and unnecessary cruelty. There are humane ways to transport and destroy dogs, cats, and other animals. After you watch this video you will have to act. I have always thought PETA was a little overboard when it came to fur since there are humane ways to produce fur. But now I see their point. Until we remove the market, this cruelty will continue, and the only way to do that is to stop wearing, and buying fur products of any type. The Chinese MUST be made to see that the world wont accept this animal abuse and the only way to do that is to boycott companies who produce their products in China. Please join the DON"T BUY CHINESE CAMPAIGN. To see these videos go to jcruel.com Oct. 30: We won the Breeders Cup Fillies Juvenile with Folklore. She should be Champion 2yo Filly. It got cold, very cold, very suddenly so I am winterizing the house as best I can since heating bills will be around $400 a month this winter. Brian, who works for us, took tons of photos today so I hope I get a couple of good ones to put up. Oct. 11: Wow, I've had a great couple of weeks. Lots of friends visiting, doing fun stuff. Yesterday Jolene and I went to Overbrook where we got to see Storm Cat (link to Overbrook Farm on links page) and some of my old rides like Bustin Out (pic. of him in the photos) and Capital Spending, one of my all time favorites. Jolene took lots of photos so I will post some as soon as she sends them to me. We also went to the KY Horse Park and saw the great old John Henry, now 30 years old, and Cigar, who was playing in his paddock like a 2 year old. Jolene left this morning after watching me gallop uneventfully for 5 mornings. Well she missed all the drama. I had a CRASHING fall this morning. The horse went down (as in fell on his head) and how he didn't land on me I don't know. Then as he jumped up and ran away my leg got between his back legs tripping him again. I can't believe he didn't snap my leg. Lots of the right kind of luck this morning. Now I know why I have bad luck in my other endevours, I use up all my share surviving these falls that are an ocupational hazard. Oct. 5: Yesterday our barn kitty, Little Johny, was killed. He was laid to rest under an Oak tree at Churchill Downs. We will all miss our big, fat, very cute, playful, orange cat. Sept.18 Yesterday I wrote my first C program. Here it is if you want to try it: Kids Test Byron is doing C programming as a subject this year. (10th grade) and since I home school him I figured I better get a handle on it so I can be his tutor. He is doing three of his classes online,(English, C, and Geometry) so this year I am only teaching Biology, World history and PE. Tortoise update. Max is now 15 lbs and 14 inches long without his head. Norman is a tiny bit smaller but he is using his calories to excavate to China instead of growing. Sept.7: Home again. New Jersey was hot and sticky but much nicer than I anticipated. Nothing exciting happened so nothing to report. Same old boring life. Spritzle had an operation to remove some of her tumors and my clutch went on the Jeep. So as usual I am spending money I'd rather save, but OH WELL! July: Well, now Churchill is over and I am off again for a few weeks. This time to New Jersey. I have been too busy with classes in forensics and medicolegal death investigation to work on my site. Don't worry, you haven't missed anything. My life is just as boring as it was in May. Ah, I just remembered, I build myself a new computer this week so I can take it with me. I also upgraded the other one so Byron has an ultimate gaming computer for his Everquest. I did a great job with this one and the CPU temp is the lowest I have managed so far. Less than 30C when just ticking over. Now I must try get the other computer's temp down. It is running at about 45C ticking over. I think I may have bumped the heatsink when I put the motherboard into the new case. We were looking at new fans. Byron wants one with leds. His new case is see-thru and is already lit up like a Xmas tree. May 16: Notice the new site name. The last horses shipped out of Keeneland today so I am back at Churchill. I spent the last five days alone at Keeneland after most of the horses shipped out last week. We were a few stalls short at Churchill so I was left to hold the fort until we found some space. Soooo glad to be home. I was away for my sister Kay's birthday so Happy belated Birthday Kay. May 4: Still getting up at 3am for my nice long drive to Keeneland. Our Keeneland based horses have run well for the most part. One more week and then back to Churchill for a few months. April 16: Back in Kentucky. At Keeneland for the meet then back to Churchill. Very busy setting up the barn and quite tired from the long commute to Lexington and back everyday. Mar 21: and 2 more winners, including one of my favorites, Swizzle Stick. Home soon I hope. Mar 14: 2 more winners this week. Things are looking up. After a day in the 80s temps dropped back into the 30's. YUCK!!! Mar 6: Well we've had a winner. Happy birthday Rich. My little doggie, Tottie, is getting soooo fat with nobody to play with. The other dogs will trim her down as soon as we get home. We should be going home soon. Feb 22: No winners here yet, but eveything's been in the money. No news because NOTHING happens in this town. Byron is taller than me now. So I don't have a little boy any more. Jan 5: Happy New Year. Sorry, but I moved to Arkansas for the winter and only got online service yesterday. Also, my dad, Ron, died last week so I have been a little down. I feel so guilty because I was not able to call or email for the holidays and was going to call him as soon as I got my connection. Too late. Such is life I suppose. The weather is bizare here. One day well below freezing, then hot and rainy and then an overnight plunge well below freezing again. Yesterday it felt like the tropics and today we are arctic. Byron and I have done some hiking in the hills around town. (on the warmer days) We even went hiking in the clouds and got very wet. The horses are doing well and racing starts here in a couple of weeks.
